In a recent interview, Tatsu Sensei shared his inspiration for including a dinner scene at the end of each arc

In a recent interview, Tatsu Sensei shared his inspiration for including a dinner scene at the end of each arc:

“I love Studio Ghibli’s works and am deeply influenced by Miyazaki Hayao’s approach. In Miyazaki’s films, characters who have worked always eat afterward because they’re too tired to go on. I follow a similar philosophy, ensuring there’s always a meal after work.” He also noted that the line from Jarinko Chie, “The worst thing for a human being is to be hungry and feel cold,” influences his focus on meal scenes.

The meal scenes convey his belief that “people who work hard should be rewarded.”
“There’s no point in working hard if it leads to nothing. Kindness matters. I myself was poor at one time . As an assistant, my teacher once gave me 1,000 yen for a late-night snack, and I felt so grateful. Eating stir-fried pork, grabbing a coffee on my way home, and returning to work—it’s a memory that’s stayed with me. It was difficult, and I don’t want others to face that same hardship.”

Speaking about Dandadan, he added, “Since it’s entertainment, I want readers to leave with hope,” and said that “kindness is the most important thing.”
The meal scene in Dandadan reflects a sense of hope and kindness, and I look forward to how it will be depicted in the anime adaptation.
